Another niche font request
Ah yeah this is a great idea, iconic and familiar in a cozy way. Licensed. (Nice affordable pricing there.)
If you have other ideas for fonts that would be great for Clear that could be a good thread to start, we could use community help and ideas on this one.
That would be cool! I feel like I come across random and quirky fonts frequently, could definitely put them in a thread.
Have you talked to Marcin Wichary, who recently published an amazing book set called “Shift Happens”, about including Gorton Perfected in Clear? There’s a great PDF about the font.
(And for anyone further interested, The Verge interviewed Wichary about the book this time last year.)
Totally under my radar. You font buffs should definitely start this thread, curious what you would all think everyone else using Clear would really appreciate in its font library.
Here’s a few feature requests:
- The abillity to change the color/font/font color of an individual item in a list.
Explanation: If I have a list called 2024 and want the contents of the list to include the MONTH NAMES, with tasks for those lists falling under each MONTH NAME, it would be nice to be able to have the month bar color, font and font color customizable (to set them off as headings). Keeps the overall simplicity of CLEAR but adds options for better visual organization and flexibility.
- The ability to apply themes on a per list basis.
Explanation: I think this one is pretty obvious. This just lets users be more flexible with list customization and get more out of the available Personalizations. It’s worth noting that this ability would likely encourage more SHOP sales, as we wouldn’t be questioning the limited use of our potential purchases over what we already have available.
- More font choices and rewards.
Explanation: Theme rewards are great but we usually find our faves and then only very occasionally want a different one. Icons are usually far less exciting (there’s only about three I would ever use amd one is locked until 100 collectibles). Sounds? Meh. Quotes? No thanks. Complications? Well, yes. But fonts? Where are they? I only have 5 and there seems to be one more locked behind a reward. Am I missing something? Seems like more should be available.

is definitely not something I’ve thought on before, but interesting.
-
Definitely a matter of time for this one. I would be surprised if we don’t get there in a relatively early 2.x update.
-
We’ll make some improvements. I guess fonts are tricky because we found a whole world of super fun niche ones, but they would be very hit or miss on more general appeal. And don’t want to flood people’s fonts list with a bunch of crazier ones they would never use. So have been leaning on free distribution via shop for now.
I am sure this year we will be doing a big ‘secret rewards’ update. This will likely fit well and let us add a bunch of fun font ones that you could unlock and go after in more specific ways.
Also vaguely thinking about a once a month ‘font day’ in the shop or something along those lines. We wouldn’t make any money on those days, but it could be a fun way to convince a bunch of people to check out the shop for the first time with a big list of them to choose from etc.
And P.S. themes are about to get a lot more fun with widgets Can individually theme each one!
We do have some ideas on making personalizations more useful/fun/valuable too. E.g. 2.1 with widgets will probably also include a new Daily Quote Push feature you can schedule for your selected quote pack.
You guys already mentioned more than half of my list, but here’s mine:

My top wishlist / feature items are:
-
To decrease the text padding throughout to be able to see more lists and less space. Even when reducing the Apple settings text, there is still a lot of free space.
-
Would love to have recurring tasks.
-
I wish there was a way to have multiple “my lists” level pages where the name of the lists can be customized. I have tried to use archive to reduce my list length, but when I want to quickly & easily add to one of those archived lists it is not as fluid as the my list level.
-
Some of my lists are really long It would be great if there was a way to highlight tasks that I want to stick out in the list / to flag. This way the list remains uniform; isn’t small and big text, like with space or : - just a way to highlight without me having to move those items to a today or now list to prioritize.
Thanks - Keep up the great work. I am loving the improved Clear!
What do you mean with night mode? The app has dark themes already!
Oh, I meant automatic switching between a day and night theme based on your iPhone’s appearance settings or a set time.
Yep we’re starting to plan this one out, to let you select a night theme that auto changes contextually. Question is mostly which trigger(s) to support. (iOS Dark Mode matching? Screen brightness? Time of day?) Will be testing internally.
We did have this feature years ago in older Clear 2 betas but it was only tied to screen brightness then, before there were even dark mode APIs.
My opinion is screen brightness and/or time of the day! Time of the day is better i think.
My iPhone is always in Dark mode and Night Shift.
TOD, like sunset, seems to make the most sense to me. I personally have auto-brightness off and am manually adjusting it all the time. Would drive me nuts if the theme kept changing all day, if that’s how it works.
Yeah I have a feeling we won’t be able to pin it down to a single option, so will likely have to offer at least a couple. (Match Dark Mode or Time of Day perhaps. Screen brightness thing was more of a hack from the pre dark mode API days.)
It would be nice being able to rename “My Lists” to something more personal, if one so desires.
Icon used to show past due tasks - I use it for monthly bills payment. So, I set the date I want to pay (or set payment) and a glance at my phone (clear icon) showed me whether I was past due on setting payment. Now, all I get is the number of scheduled tasks in a list - not useful to me re a list that resets each month. Thanks!
That’s a pretty valid point on Clear’s sandbox design, will think on it. I have some concerns about some onboarding might reference ‘My Lists’ level, but Clear is also about not handicapping the longterm experience for like, baby gates. Have a feeling I’ll feel a lot more confident about this one once we further improve our onboarding for new people.
Clear 1.x did have a separate toggle for reminder badging. We will try to get this functionality back in soon, maybe by 2.1.1.
I had no idea about that. I only knew about the colon thing because I tapped an item in the sample list to try to figure it out. The leading space for smaller items would’ve taken a lot longer.
