Clear is laggy and glitchy now

Hello. I have been using Clear for what must be nearly a decade. I run my life with Clear. The new version has been fantastic, until an update a few weeks or months (?) ago harmed the app in my experience and made it super laggy. Dragging items around is laggy and barely works. Does anyone else have this experience? I am on an iPhone 16 Pro running iOS 18.6.2. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Yeah, it’s been bad the last like few weeks for me too. Increasingly so it seems. The last app update looks to be 2 months ago, so I don’t know why it was smooth for the first half of that. Very laggy and delayed now.

Thanks for reporting this. Are you all seeing this consistently and continuously? Or does it lag initially and then settle into more normal behavior? I have a theory on what’s happening, will investigate with the team this week.

Consistently and continuously, yes. And worse as time goes, it seems, like I said. Same deal pre- and post- iOS 26 update.

Consistently and continuously. It’s all the time.

Can you both hit this link and send the log email to phill@impending.com? We will take a look at this tomorrow!

Sent. Thank you

Did that last week via Support. :check_box_with_check:

Sent again.

Attachment is too large to send. Email keeps error-ing out.

Is this happening for you in one list, or all lists? Because for me, I figured out today, that it was really only my main list that I’m constantly in and out of and editing. So I saved the text, deleted it, remade it, pasted the tasks back in, and it works great. Temporarily fix at least.

This has been happening for me ever since the initial Clear V2 release. I’ve brought this up multiple times. It really makes Clear a pain to use. There’s probably some ON^2 code in there somewhere.

Hey sorry I missed this. If you’re able to send it to me over iMessage phill@impending.com that would probably get by the size limit.

@ericb we do suspect it’s not a new issue and related with extremely long lists (usually years long users who just keep a single one). We made some emergency optimization fixes early in the release to lazy load and render items as you scroll but I’ll see if we have more ideas.

Can you try creating a fresh test list, and let me know if you see the same performance issues there?

This happens on a brand new list with just a few items. It’s not scrolling that’s a problem. The delay happens:

  • after adding an item
  • after deleting an item
  • after moving an item
  • when trying to delete (archive?) an entire list … then Clear just crashes after a long delay
  • does not appear to happen on “completing” an item

Appreciate the details. I believe this is consistent with our data sanitizer layer being involved. It basically is checking whenever you change your data to make sure it’s not corrupted in anyway, and it seems to have scaling performance issues as the data grows. Let me see if the team has any new ideas.

Let me know if you’d like any help… I’m a 30 year coding veteran, would be happy to lend some eyes
