When I start CLEAR on my iPhone, a black screen appears, nothing happens, after about 10-15 seconds i am back on the App-List

Pity, that there is no help or solution?
I am using CLEAR as a diary since 7 years, with 365 entries in every year-list.
And now they are all lost ???
:disappointed_relieved:

Important: do not delete/uninstall the app - your best shot at retrieving your data is to hang tight and one of the devs will advise you. If you remove the app, getting your lists back becomes much harder.

@ben , please can you advise? Thanks!

hoping for advice …

What device are you running Clear on? It sounds like an issue that’s come up for a handful of people running the app on very old devices. (Like approaching a decade old.) There is a performance bottleneck if the app is trying to load a ton of lists.

I guess it would be helpful to either confirm this is the case or situation (old device, tons of lists) or rule it out, if it’s something else going on.

IPhone X

I am using CLEAR lists since about 7 years as my diary, about 365 entries in every year-list

Every day about 1 to 5 lines on the iPhone

The old version i used on the iphone X and over cloud on my ipad pro (2024).

unfortunately the cloud funktion ended in 2023, so my working ipad-CLEAR ends in 2023

So now i lost all entries since about september 2023 on my iphone X

Would be very nice, you could get it working again.

Ok it does sound like the same issue (lots of lists + slower device choking on launch) so first thing, definitely do not delete Clear on the phone, the data is there.

Unfortunately I don’t have a quick or easy fix but I think the options are:

  1. Getting your lists into Clear on iPad via full device iCloud backups/transfer. This would be a real hassle as these device backups/restores can take a few hours, but I can walk you through the steps. Maybe iMessage me on phill@impending.com if you want to try. (Basic idea would be, restore your iPad to your latest iPhone backup, retrieve your Clear lists / export them, then restore the iPad back to its last backup and import those lists.)

  2. Your iPhone X is very old. Are you considering an upgrade to a newer phone? I wouldn’t suggest buying one just to fix this issue with Clear, but I would consider it for general reasons – all of your apps running a lot smoother, continued iOS updates and security patches support from Apple, much better quality camera etc. Even a used iPhone from a couple years ago or something would be a huge leap in performance and future support from Apple. I can even send you $50 towards a phone upgrade if so.

(Ideally we would optimize the list loading in Clear, but it’s quite involved to rewrite it… so far with the handful of people affected I have really been trying to convince them to upgrade if possible and offering some money towards it.)

I would hope for that … :upside_down_face:

I sent an eMail to phill@impending.com to receive “steps” to get the iPhone-Data to the iPad, because i cannot find any cloud funktions in the CLEAR-App-Settings ?

For a new iPhone i will wait to the next generation in 2025 …

Ok I had a couple ideas of quicker things to try before the full blown process, emailed you.

@phillryu Aren’t you supposed to be on vacation?

Yes, I am enjoying it haha. Just trying to help quickly with this one if I can. @GolfVadda I’ll try to send those full steps later today.
