Widget finicky to use

The clear home screen widget has proven to be quite finicky in my experience. I initially thought the bottom most row was “safe” and would open my lists, but many a time I have ended up accidentally dismissing a task.

Tap in the middle or the right, not the left margin.

Ah, that works. Thanks

Sounds like we could do a better job on onboarding, but yeah hopefully once you’re aware it hits a decent sweet spot. (And you find the checking off functionality useful at least here or there too.)

I actually find myself wanting tap to check off on the iPhone too! After we implemented it for Watch with internal builds.

I’m a little unclear (no pun intended) on the functionality of the Mac desktop widget. I can see see one list and check things off (or uncheck things off) by tapping on the left side. Other than that, when I click on the widget I get the message to “Open Clear on iPhone to continue”. Does this mean that the desktop widget is only for crossing things off and has no other functions at this point?

Yes, everything is exactly as you described it.

To add tasks, you need to open Clear on your iPhone.

Thanks for clarifying! It will be nice (someday) we can do a little more in the desktop widget.

Yeah it really just mirrors your iPhone widget for now but lets you check things off too.

Apple added these functionalities (interactive widgets, and iPhone widgets on Mac) recently, like last year or two. So maybe they will open up some more with future updates. Didn’t notice anything major this WWDC though.

Some version of desktop functionality, whether it’s widget or browser is important because everyone moves between form factors throughout the day. Having to pick up your phone to add items to your list isn’t always the best user experience.

Yeah it’s not ideal… we are working on a web prototype right now as a hopeful solution. Good amount of work put into it so far with some ways to go.
