I’m not sure if these are necessarily bugs or feature requests, but here are a few thoughts:
I’ve mentioned this before, but the +, -, and = signs look odd when crossed out. Sometimes I use + as shorthand or to connect ideas, but the line through it makes it hard to read and feels off visually.
When setting a reminder in the newest version (2.3), I don’t like that the reminder text stays visible in the task. For example, if I type “Saturday at 3pm” to set a reminder, I don’t want that text to remain in the task details; it should disappear once the reminder is set. Also, I love that I can set reminders for specific times now, but the time selector rounds to the nearest 5-minute increment, which can be confusing. For instance, if I want a reminder to wish someone happy birthday at 11:59pm so I’m ready for 12:00am, I can have that set specific time when I type it out, but the selector only shows times rounded to 5s. So if I quickly wanna change it to 11:58pm I’d have to retype it out and also remove the text after, and that’s where it becomes an issue. I know it was explained as a simplicity feature, but it can be confusing in some cases.
I love the new personalization setting for hiding the back arrow, but it can sometimes get in the way, especially when adding a new thought since they both require swiping down. It can get frustrating to work around.
Overall, these adjustments would make the app feel more intuitive and visually polished. Thank you for considering
I completely agree with point number two about the new Reminders implementation.
Additionally, would it be possible to have a setting to bring back the old reminder style? I actually preferred setting reminders that way. Especially since there were times where I would add an item, but not set a reminder, and I could go back and quickly set a reminder later by swiping. But now I would have to edit the entry to add a reminder after initial creation.
Thanks to the team for adding NLP reminders! Loved it during beta testing. Echoing the others, would it be possible to add option of old reminders OR having option to always show “Set Reminder” when adding a task? It feels a bit clunky to always have to type in day/time to get reminder option to show up.
think the new reminder function could do with a tweak. I can se that the old reminder had some issues, clearing notes if you didn’t pull the bar fare enough or going to reminder when you just want to clear a task. If I have to set an reminder for “Friday two weeks? E.g I will have to open my calendar to se what that date is, then type it in, then set the reminder that now show up and then go back and delete the typed in date in my text?! That is wayyy too much effort! As somebody wrote further up, if you put the “set reminder” as a default all problems would be solved and everybody well live happy ever after
I love the new reminder function! Tapping the top corner is so easy and scrolling to the date/time is great! I also love that I don’t have to worry about accidentally clearing my tasks in the process.
RE: Robin - Thanks for posting this, I didn’t realize that’s what the tap option for reminders meant! This makes the new system so much more intuitive for me
Personally, I really like the new tap to add reminder feature.
While we’re talking feature requests, here are mine:
Ability to send tasks straight to the top of a long list.
Integrate Clear task reminders with Calendars 5 or Google Calendars to automatically add scheduled tasks to your preferred calendar app.
Collapsable sub-lists. It would be something like an indented list of sub-tasks you could add under a task. Collapsible. And of course when you move the main task all the subtasks would move with it. In my mind I know exactly how this feature should work, but it’s hard to write down every detail.
Ability to choose a daytime and a nighttime theme and then have it automatically change between them depending on time of day would be cool—otherwise I’m stuck only using a dark nighttime theme because who likes to stare into a bright light at night?
Appreciate the feedback everyone, I will be digesting that this week. Long story short, this was a (near release) beta build I accidentally pushed out instead of the intended Japanese localization only update… so I guess we will polish it up in public
Overall though, glad to see the biggest issues I see in the forums are around the list open/close animation and some requests/suggestions for the reminders change which otherwise seems like it’s being received reasonably well.
(And to the people a little tired of the continued tinkering on the design, I do hear you, and I don’t entirely disagree. We should be stabilizing there after the big changes with the 2.0 and first year.)
One quick thing I just remembered: it would be great if the shop used the same theme as the app. Whether you include a toggle or not, it would be nice for the shop to stay consistent with the chosen theme. For example, I use the black-and-white dark theme, but when I open the shop, it sometimes switches to a bright white for example, which is jarring, especially in the dark. I wish there was an option to prevent the shop from automatically changing the theme every time I open it. Also, sometimes the text gets cut off in the shop for the facts or sayings etc.
Another thing to note about the new reminder feature: for example, if I type, “stop by 7/11 to pick up a snack on 9/18,” it automatically picks 7/11 as the date instead of recognizing it as the store name. I just wanted to share that feedback as well.
One other thing I forgot to mention is the new “clicking the top-right reminder” feature. I keep accidentally clicking the spot to set a reminder at the top-right area of a task.
Another suggestion I have is to implement auto-trim functionality for spaces when pressing return. For example, if you accidentally press space at the end of a sentence and then hit return, the app should automatically remove the trailing space to keep things tidy.
I keep accidentally clicking the spot to set a reminder at the top-right area of a task.
I’m doing the same thing. I wasn’t a huge fan of the swipe-to-remind gesture because sometimes I would trigger it completing a task, but I did that much less frequently than I’m accidentally setting reminders with the corner-press now.
I’ll take a look at this this week. We could consider requiring a more deliberate press like editing list title.
What are you trying to do when it gets in the way? I guess maybe editing / moving text cursor?
We have also been testing the recognized phrase being deleted after you set a reminder via it. I think it feels sound and should ship in the next update.
I use Clear for (among other reasons) daily to-dos, so I find myself editing and moving items quite a bit throughout the day. I have a habit of pressing the screen on a blank section to get the keyboard out of the way (instead of pressing “Done” down at the bottom-right of the screen/keyboard) and I think that’s where I’m running into accidental-reminders the most since the right side of the screen is the most empty. I also, though, like you mentioned, run into it when editing and moving the cursor.
Isn’t tapping above the only way to dismiss the keyboard now since the done button became the next button?
To give more feedback on the reminders, I have tried giving this implementation a chance, but it’s just made for a bit of a bumbling experience over here. 99% of the time when I prompt a reminder I didn’t mean to, usually by tapping to edit text near the end of a line. Also the “Set Reminder” button popping up on the keyboard any time I write any words that resemble a time or date has been a little distracting. I don’t set many reminders, but it’s felt disruptive to me anyhow. A lot of taps to access/dismiss one small feature. I swear I’m the only person who loved reminders being hidden behind the checkmark, lol. It was slick. Not a big deal ultimately, just doesn’t seem quite there is all.
Same, add me to the list of people who keep accidentally setting up reminders. Funniest thing is, I don’t even use Clear for reminders, I would just disable the feature completely if I could.
