Oh wow that’s a relief. So just trying to figure out what I can from your situation, you had been using the beta for a while before, opened it to it crashing and made this thread etc. But hadn’t installed the release version at that point? And then finally installing that over your old Clear and launching it imported beta lists OK?
Hi Phill! Sorry for the delay.
I only started using the Beta version of the app on Dec 29 (if I’ve got my calendar right), after you recommended it. The original app was the one that originally was giving me the first Critical Internal Error and advising me to contact support. That was when I created this thread.
After I downloaded the Beta version, it started crashing. I was stuck in that cycle for several days, until I decided to try re-downloading the old version from the App Store. That worked for a day or two until the launch of the new version. I downloaded the release version on Launch Day, and that’s been working like a dream ever since.
So the order went…
- Old version starts giving Critical Internal Error, I start thread
- I download Beta version from link you sent me, which works for a couple days
- Beta version starts crashing with purple screen
- I redownload old version
- Launch Day, I download Release version, everything is beautiful and works nicely
I did not go directly from Beta version to Release version at any point, if that matters.
Geez, Carly I totally forgot about this original incident. Oops I feel like I’ve been telling some others we never saw a Clear 1.x data corruption issue in years of support history and… I guess this is still mostly true with you as an exception lol.
But it’s good to hear new Clear ended up handling it OK.
One thing I want to clear up, the purple screen crash you mentioned. I wonder if that means you have a list or two with a LOT (thousand+) of entries including checked off items, because new Clear was crashing on those, and it was possible to get stuck inside this crash loop or list.
However, if this is the case and you find Clear crashes after trying to open one again… we have a fix that will be included in 2.0.1 update that we should be submitting quite soon.
Hi Phill! No worries! I was throwing a lot at you there for a while!
For what it’s worth, I had a similar Critical Internal Error message crop up about three years ago. But it only alerted once, so I didn’t think much of it, and it didn’t seem to cause any issues. I went about my listing business and didn’t think about it again until this most recent event.
And yes, I do have a couple lists that have 3K+ items. My friends and I collect phrases that would make horrible band names (for example, “Cheese for All Seasons,” “Breakup of the Bagpipes,” etc.) and children’s books (like “Carpeted in Cardboard Bits” and “Touch Eurasia”), and I’ve been the keeper of the lists for about eight years. As you can imagine, phrases like that crop up allllll the time.
So far, though, the new app is treating the big lists perfectly!
I really don’t know what I would do without Clear. Between my various to-do lists that I use multiple times throughoutt my day, to documenting decade-plus-long inside jokes with friends, I’m just so grateful for this tool you’ve created. It’s elegantly functional and gives me all the dopamine. Thank you.
Really appreciate you sharing, both the bug reports and your experience with the app. Here’s to the next ten years with Clear
Here’s to ten more! Cheers, and thanks again for your help with this during such a busy time for your group.
