This worked for me! My backup from 11/6 restored successfully, with all my changes intact, and reminders are visible and working again.
Thank you for getting this patched quickly! I only forgot to do one thing while it was broken, and I have now tried 4 different minimalist to-do apps and I still don’t like any of them as much as Clear.
Since your post and my e-mail sent to you guys, I never have heard back from you.
So I‘m still sticking in the situation with a broken list since the app update! And what‘s scaring me the most is, why do you upload lists to your server? I am not a Pro user and therefor no list syncing should be enabled at all. I am just glad I didn‘t store sensitive data in the list like others!

Yeah this issue was quite scary.
What happened was there is support for collaborative/shared lists, that we were testing internally as a future feature. This feature works by sharing a list with a unique ID with a collaborator and basically syncing the same list.
This is obviously supposed to be separated from release, and opt-in per list to share only if on these internal builds. But it turned out there was a tutorial list in Clear 1.x, that when migrated to Clear 2, was sharing the same hardcoded list ID!
We were able to figure out this bug and block this specific list ID from syncing from the server a few hours after 2.5 rolled out, and limit the # of people affected to 8 before the update went out further. 2.5.1 will properly reassign to unique list IDs.
Focused on shipping some fixes but there is a lot for us to learn as a team from this one.
Hi! I’m posting here today because my lists from thursday are all empty. To clarify : I created lists on thursday for some classes I’m conducting, that turned out to be empty when I opened them later that evening. Nothing serious, can’t recreate, but I think it has to do with the update?
As a legacy user I have been holding off going Pro, waiting for the sync to return. Now it’s here I cannot figure out how to join. There’s no mention of Pro in the App Store and on my iPhone the amount doesn’t seem right. (sorry, don’t know why this image is so large …)
Exact issue on my end as well. I sent a report to the Clear devs some time ago and they did a knowledge the issue and are working it. Obviously there are bigger bugs to squash than this in the immediate but I’m sure it’ll be taken care of.
I believe for me it started randomly after installing the TestFlight (sync) Alpha build or it may have been after the follow on build. I can’t recall for certain. I did a screen recording of the issue occurring but realized afterward that for someone watching the video it would be hard to tell what theme I asked the app to use and what random theme the bug reverted to.
For me two things occur and it doesn’t seem to be caused by any specific theme(s).
When swapping themes to a new one the app will randomly revert my current choice back the the previously used theme.
Occasionally when I change a theme it will suddenly change from the theme I chose to a completely different random theme rather than reverting to the previous theme. Like the app is just choosing any theme it wants regardless of the last time it was used.

So reading about all the troubles, I did not upgrade to 2.5, deciding to wait for the next release. But then, a couple of days ago, I accidentally did upgrade. You know how stuff moves around in the app store as upgrades are completed? Yeah, so just as I was going to mark another app for upgrading, stuff moved, so my finger landed on the Clear app instead. Ouch.
But here’s the thing: I soon got the dreaded message about my pro subscription having been ended. Instead of restoring the purchase, I just ignored it. Haven’t seen any bad side effects yet. Keeping my fingers crossed that things will still work right, so long as I don’t even go into the iCloud menu.
But I really hope that the team gets to the bottom of the troubles and can get a fix out soon. And more so for their sake than mine! I’d rather not be in their shoes right now.
It’s been rocky! Silver lining is I think we’ve been able to get to the bottom of most of the biggest issues relatively quickly with all the feedback and reports here.
The 2.5.1 including several important fixes has been approved, and we should be releasing on Monday. Phased rollout to be extra safe.
It includes a number of major fixes, so please give it a try if you’ve experienced any of the below and let us know if you see improvements:
• Fixes an issue where some hardcoded list IDs were not being synced
• Fixes an issue with some users were seeing lists reverted to earlier states
• Fixes a bug that affected iCloud backups restore functionality
• Fixes an issue that prompted about Pro membership expiring, when it hasn’t
• Fixes an issue with Pro membership being disabled (until purchase restored) on logging out of Clear Cloud
This bug has bitten me badly so many times that I’ve decided to just delete the app. I can’t trust it anymore. I’ve lost data from a list again, and I urgently need to recover whatever was in there. How can I restore a backup from iCloud? Reinstalling the app no longer prompts me to choose anything like it used to. Missing Clear Lists in latest version - #5 by phillryu does nothing either.
I’m also having a trust issue now (being a Clear fan since day one). I put faith in yesterday’s update, but Hh were gone on the first list I opened. I hope this was the last glitch and that you put much more effort into quality.
I apologize about letting you down. It is definitely always a tricky balancing act, for example we do think 2.5.1 fixes a number of major issues but we are holding it back from auto updating to everyone until we can confirm some more. Difficult to make some of these calls! But yeah we are focused on fixing these issues and I think we will be back to a very stable place reasonably soon.
