Did you get the iCloud backup restore option when you installed it fresh on new device? It does require iCloud Drive turned on to be making these backups… wonder if that was off on your previous device.
Do you still have access to the older device?
I deleted application and reinstalled.
Let It sit for a few then I saw popup to restore from backup. Perfect. We are good !!

did the ios 6 (six) version have any mechanism for saving its data to the cloud?
in case the phone breaks.
