Clear 2.1 & 2.1.1 (Widgets, Per List Personalization, Daily Quote, Mini & Nano Font Sizes)

So not sure if anyone else has gotten this bug, but I was playing around with the list specific personalizations and had set a specific font to a list. But if items in that list are entered as large or small, then the font reverts back to the main font theme used and not the list specific font.

Yep someone found this earlier. Will be fixed 2.1.1!

In general I think 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 will be less feature focused, more polish/fixes.

At first, i too wanted a smaller font, not to fill more rows on the screen but because i have longer thoughts that become unaesthetic with too many lines inside every row.

But after reading this post, i am starting to view Clear in a different way, and now i am using the Medium size! It sounds a bit weird but my mind changes with reasoned and well-explained views!

I changed from “tiny” to “medium” because “medium” must be how the dev team envisioned the ideal Clear design! Let’s see if I don’t change my mind again tomorrow!

EDIT: Also, i liked “tiny” because it’s harder for people around me to see my lists. But now I’m in the “medium” team!

Haha honestly I should kind of do the same in reverse and really get into the mind of tiny font people to try to properly address this. I have a known bias for bigger fonts. I think it comes from hating to type still on phones, bigger fonts makes me type less and it fills the screen more satisfyingly :stuck_out_tongue:

So it kind of makes sense that I tuned ‘Normal’ for me, but feels big to other people. And I just threw in Large so I don’t feel weird myself.

What I WANT to do over time is accommodate tiny font people in a beautiful way but I think we need a little space to digest. Hoping the iOS dynamic font size being separated out will make this a little saner to sort through. There are several things mixed together here, font weight (which then intersects all the fonts that we don’t have thin weighting licensed for), row height scaling etc. that I need to parse through and weigh out.

Yea, fonts diverge a lot in size. And the “large” size is too large i think.

Man we probably should rename everything one notch over huh.

New nano size named Tiny

Tiny renamed to Small

Small renamed to Medium

Medium renamed to Large

Large renamed to Huge

:man_facepalming:

Still default to Large :upside_down_face:

Oh god the people are going to think we are out to gaslight them all.

Ahah this is too funny

I am in the medium size team now, no matter what! :person_fencing:

Sorry to keep repeating this but there definitely still are some issues with font size

First, mine is set to tiny, but when I upgraded the app it was displaying as either small or medium (the setting still said “tiny”). I had to switch to a larger font and then back to tiny to make it display as tiny. So you might get some people upset about that

But yeah also, it seems like the font size and padding have both increased in 2.1. I have never adjusted my iOS font size to my memory. Tiny was too large for me in 2.0 and now it is even larger. I cant say for sure, once I am inside a list it seems about the same, but the “my lists” page is definitely larger than before

I’m excited enough about widgets and per-list theming that I’m not upset about the font change. And definitely planning to support the shop even more now that I can customize lists! But I really think sliders for adjusting font size and padding are the only way you’re going to keep people happy

Congrats on the update and thank you for the hard work on widgets!

Huh! I’ll keep that in mind, was not aware there could be a bug like that. Will see if I can reproduce this situation tomorrow.

I will note outside of detaching iOS font scaling I think we only increased info density in this update for small and tiny, largely with hierarchical row scaling.

And that is true about the slider(s), I just consider it nontrivial to r&d a new custom control, but at this point… yeah maybe we really should prioritize that sooner to truly put this to rest!!

Thank you and glad to hear you’re enjoying some of the other steps forward.

My only “proof” that the font size increased is this list name which almost touches the counter. I am like 90% sure it didn’t extend that far right before this update but maybe I’m just misremembering

On the other hand when I get into the per-list personalization since it’s nested so deep it gets super tiny. But honestly this size is what some of us psychos want (but with even less padding too :joy:)

End of the day this is personalization and I’m committed to it. This is a kink shaming free zone for both tiny and huge font people.

I think you’re right, the only truly satisfying solution is allowing even tinier, and even huger fonts, and everything in between via slider control, and we should really just gun for that.

Also, idk if you’ve forgotten or not, but the sunset theme isn’t working. I (and others) would really appreciate if you could get that figured out.

In the list for 2.1.1. Here’s what’s on our shared team list for fixes currently for it:

I really don’t like the update. All looks very big now. In 2.0 the all design was minimalistic. I have small font but all looks bold and big like using a loupe.

And you should make some goodies for $0,99 too. Not only $1.99 or like the donuts theme for $2.99 sir?? For one theme? I can buy some apps for this price…

Try Tiny for now, we had to disconnect iOS font scaling to properly tune this moving forward. Also Helvetica Light if you prefer light weight font.

We’re going to hold steady on $3, but it’s possible in the future we may experiment with some holiday flash sale events or something like that. I will note that in the first shop event we are planning, we currently have plans for a free fresh collectible per day in addition to the usual free fonts.

I’d say $3 is trying to be ‘treat yourself when you’ve been productive with Clear and you see something you love’ pricing. So a little bit higher than true impulse where you could just purchase it guiltlessly and without thinking, but in the right context, something that feels a little precious and delightful and kind of earned. (If you’re doing it right, you should net out positively in the end, getting that extra productivity out of good Clear use.)

You have to remember that the other app you can buy for this price, we are letting you use all of Clear’s functionality for free vs. them. So in a sense you could get that one Doughnut theme if it would make you happy, and be on par, full functionality as a customer except in Clear your list can look like a chocolate donut with sprinkles, and it can’t in other todo apps. :doughnut:

Will also keep adding free rewards to unlock over updates!

I would like the option to have the old “Tiny” sizing and spacing back, please. I don’t have a screenshot of the Gulkave font before the update, but that’s my main font and it’s an even bigger difference than seen here.

Love the effort this is seeing, but I respectfully submit this made things worse for my uses.

Look at all the wasted space. :frowning:

I understand you but till today I already spent $15 just for few themes… and they are 200 to collect. So for just an to do app is very expensive. Because you want those themes if you want to your app looks good and not borring. But I think is too much for me.

I guess it really depends which themes you like. As a counter example, I have 35 themes available without making any in app purchases and I have selected one that I like from the ones I have. I know there are per list options now, but for me, I really only need the one theme.

Sure, there are a huge number of themes you could buy, but unless you have 200 lists and want every single one to have a different theme, there’s no reason you need any more than the theme(s) you are using.

First, thanks so much for the update.

Thrilled to have widgets added. Love that I can see my Clear iphone widgets on my Mac…but hope we’ll be able to check off items from the widget view in the near future.

Look forward to a text slider being added. It sounds like many people like the small and tiny text. I was using Medium, San Fran Rounded, after the update, I am now using the large size.

I understand that the padding needs to be extended for the crazier fonts, but I really wish there wasn’t so much padding.

Here is Large, Med & Small after the update without ios scaling.

I also wish that the font size did not reduce in the interior lists. If they were the same, I could at least switch down to Medium.

Would love to see a recurring / repeating events / reminders option.

Also wish that the Archive screen wasn’t so gray, especially if we are encouraged to store our lists there to declutter the main list space.

Love the quote push feature.

Also, not sure if people with lots of personalizations are aware that they can change each lists styling, as it is a long scroll down to find the option for those who have collected a lot of fonts, sounds, etc…
