Sharing and Collaboration is here - early alpha

We tried to hide this, but some of you might have already seen parts of this with the inadvertent leaks

You can now share a list with your network, one-on-one or to many, and collaborate on it. This functionality has been in the making for a long time, with sync as the foundation.

Collaboration is near real-time, and you should see changes almost immediately. We had to go through a lot of hoops to make sure this works seamlessly offline, online, and with intermittent connections.

Sharing is built to be as frictionless as possible, but has to be initiated from mobile, either on iOS or Android. In fact, we designed it, so you don’t even need to log in to edit a list if you get a shared link. In a world of coffee shops that ask you to download an app, create an account, and then use a credit card to buy something, we are against the grain.

We also want to grow this in a controlled way and fix bugs before it expands to the whole user base. So the feature isn’t available to everyone, only to people who have accepted a shared list. Once you open it on your iPhone or Android phone, you can share any list with anyone else. That means you are the first to get this feature.

Here’s the kicker: if you share a list with a particular theme+sounds+fonts combo, be it pro or free, everybody who’s using that shared list will inherit that theme for that particular list.

A lot of work went into ensuring a list can be edited on the web without needing an account or creating friction to download the app.

We have been dogfooding this internally for quite a while. Its been indispensable for my wife and me to do our grocery runs, Costco list, etc. The notifications work so well that when I leave home, she just starts adding to the list, and by the time I reach Costco, I get the notifications, and my muscle memory has grown into waiting for it.

To enable this feature, go to the app store and manually update to 2.7.3 or later. Once updated, click the link below to join.

Sharing now works on both iOS and Android.

Let us know how you feel.

This is Brilliant!!!

Insane work team!! :face_exhaling::face_exhaling:

I can’t wait to try this. One thing I noticed is when I shared the list, I was unable to change the theme afterward. When I attempted, it said only the list creator could change it (which is me).

A very minor thing, but worth noting while working out any other kinks.

That’s interesting. We’ll try to recreate this internally.

By the way, were you able to share this with somebody who has never used Clear, and were they able to install Clear and get to that list seamlessly?

The person I shared a list with via text has the app, but didn’t click on the link I shared it with them when I tried to change the theme.

However, when I connected with them after I shared the link, they received the theme as a new option, but the actual list wasn’t shared with them. They only saw their lists and not the shared one.

Additionally, I was unable to change the theme or font for the shared list with the same error I mentioned earlier.

Not a big deal at all, but I hope it helps!

That is strange. If you share a link with someone and they click it, they should see the shared list. That’s the whole point. If they can’t access that list, it’s a serious problem.

I didn’t understand what you meant by "change the theme.” If you create a list and share it with someone, they can click the link whenever they choose. You can change the list theme on your side, and that shouldn’t affect whether they accept the link. The only change that happens when you change a theme for that list on your end is that they get that list opened in that theme.

If you can DM me your email, we’ll try to figure out and fix this issue before we expand this.

Just updated the App Store version and see there’s the new “share” button. Pretty cool!

Love this functionality. @cherian Sadly, I just watched someone delete everything in The Sharing Tour list.

I am keeping a close watch and have, for the moment, restored it. Thanks for being nice there.

Unfortunately, one or two people will always make it hard for the 99%.

Indeed. It was quite a shock to watch them delete everything line by line. I kept waiting for everything to reappear, but <insert joke about feeling “listless” here.>

I made a list and successfully shared it with my spouses, but when I added something to the list after he accepted it, it did not show up automatically

Do you see it in your list?
Can you please ensure that your spouse is also in the latest version? If they are any lower than 2.7.9, they won’t be able to see. Upgrade them to 2.7.9 and then click on the invite link once more. They should be able to see

Yes, we had the same version. After we opened and closed the apps, I got all his additions and he got mine. Thanks!

Sync sharing is working great for me - thanks!

The share function works great. Ideal for shopping lists. My wife has since become a Clear Pro user. Thanks!

I’m on Clear 2.7.10. The Sharing Tour invite opens in the app, but joining says the list doesn’t allow anonymous members and tells me to sign in. I can’t find any sign-in option. Opening the invite in Safari gives ‘Invite not found.

Sorry about this. Somebody went ahead and revoked all the invites. We are restoring this.

This has been restored. Please click the invite link again.
