Hello!
My clear widget has not been working. It only shows a white box on my home screen, but when I tap on it, the widget opens to the main app with no problem. I’ve tried all the basic troubleshooting: restarting my phone, updating the iOS, deleting and reinstalling the app. All to no avail. Today I think I found the problem. I’d customized my Home Screen so that all the icons display in black and white. Apparently any kind of tint to the icons will not work with Clear widget.
You nailed it. Before I finished reading your post I was going to reply with pretty much what you said and that’s exactly the issue. In past iOS 18 betas it would show the clear widget theme instead of the white blank however it tinted the widget theme to basically make it pointless to choose a theme you liked. For instance if you used DAWN as your theme (or basically any of the other of the multicolored themes) it would blend each theme color an odd and dark shade of randomness. I’ve messed around with tinting which is how I came across this issue but I’ve never ended up using it. Having said that if widget colors would be excluded from tinting I likely would use it for a new home screen look now and then.
I noticed in the last beta or two it now just blanks out all data in the clear widget and leaves a white rectangle.
This is a good post. Thanks for pointing it out.
I don’t know why Apple insists on tinting 3rd party widgets just because you want tinted icons. They should leave all widgets alone and let you choose to tint each widget individually if desired.
