Choice is good, options are good. The home-bar tap has now entered my muscle memory, and I’d say it’s worth keeping. Thanks for generating options!
I just posted this on Twitter, but please hear me out. Perhaps other members can comment on my idea, too.
Guys, when you were researching ways to implement the “go back” and ended up with the semicircle above the Home Bar, did you ever try something like this?
A contextual bar, 25% opacity, text that changes in context, e.g. “<All Lists”, “Settings”, “Share”…
This bar would shrink on the Y axis while you are scrolling through your list or creating new tasks, but when you reach the bottom OR touch somewhere on the lower part of the screen it would expand again. How does it sound?
Bonus functionality: Say you have selected a couple tasks and want to move them to another list.
You start dragging them, the bottom bar grows to twice the Y size with text “Drop Tasks Here”. You flick them there, then go back to lists, enter another list, the bar expands automatically upon entering a list, you grab them and drop them among the other tasks of said list! It can have a great name too! “Task Shelf”
And the whole bar could be the “Context Bar”.
Here’s the mock up of the Task Shelf:
When you have selected a task (or multiple tasks) and start dragging, it expands for you to drop them there temporarily!
Here’s what I replied with on twitter for others here:
"I think it’s interesting in how explicit it is! We do really avoid adding stuff always visible on-screen, but for onboarding this one was thinking the tap target starts more visible/fades with initial use, perhaps with the action assigned printed in it (‘back’ or others you set)
we have been thinking that the new gesture accommodates for dragging item(s) there and spring loading back to drop them into other lists, so I think it would evolve and gain that for sure"
Clear is the only app I use for reminders. This update broke it for me. I much prefer the ability of the pop up from Clear 1 but I could still use it. Also feel like the font auto changed? The spacing (height of each block) is wildly big now and I had to change the font size to small. But it also isn’t the same font as it was previously I feel? The list menus has bigger fonts than the inside too, the main menu has a huge font. I preferred the last beta. Sorry for pointing out everything. I loved it as it was.
Just a wee note that this semicircle flash is not visible on white-background themes, like Overcast. Caused me some confusion when I accidentally discovered this!
Oh yeah! I think we should be able to color it / map it to one of the current theme’s colors… good catch.
[update] I just saw the thread on the new feature to tap to go back. But it’s not working for me. Do you just tap on the name of the list??
Hi I’m experiencing a bug this morning with my Clear app. It’s stuck on one of my lists, and when I pull down to go back to other lists, it just prompts for a new item. Please help and thank you!
Sorry about the confusion! Here’s a forum thread explaining what’s going on. In short there’s a new experimental gesture, and in hindsight we could’ve rolled it out a lot more gracefully to testers, with some onboarding!!
What you want to do is tap above the ‘home bar’ that you use to swipe away an app in iOS. Or if you are on SE it’s towards the center bottom of your screen.
P.S. moving your thread to the New Clear subforum, I bet there are some other testers who are just as confused and wondering.
Ah yes! I didn’t understand where to tap. Now it works…thanks Phil!
We’ll see what everyone thinks of it!
Once I had got my head around it I love this new approach for navigating back.
really like the tap to go back
